(UNION, NJ) – The Union County Board of County Commissioners has announced that an emergency food distribution event for Union County residents will be held on Saturday, December 17 at KEAN University in Union Township, 1000 Morris Avenue becomes. It is a drive thru event starting at 8:00am. Meal service is open to all Union County residents. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis and no registration is required. The events take place rain or shine.

“Union County recognizes that many residents continue to be food insecure in the face of recent inflation and the aftermath of the pandemic,” Commissioner Rebecca Williams said. “Tens of thousands of Union County households have benefited from our food distribution programs over the past two and a half years.”

Residents wishing to pick up groceries at the drive-up distribution event at Kean University must travel by vehicle.

“These food drives are an ongoing lifeline for many who are still struggling financially, and they’re also helping to strengthen our overall community by helping everyone feel included in the seasonal celebrations, especially households with children and the elderly,” said Commissioner Sergio Granados, who also serves as liaison to the Human Services Advisory Board. “We thank Village Super Market, Gargiulo Produce and all the volunteers for their continued collaboration.”

All drive-up recipients must remain in their cars. Grocery boxes are placed in the trunk or back of the vehicle by volunteers. Participants are reminded to clear a space to make room for the boxes.
