The new site will house Intel’s advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility
RESTON, Va., November 28, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Bechtel announced today that it has been selected by Intel to build Intel’s new semiconductor manufacturing facility New Albany, Licking County, Ohio. The manufacturing facilities will continue to revitalize U.S. chip manufacturing and help restore the reliability and resilience of the global semiconductor supply chain. Teach this skill to Ohio is a historic win for the region and for America.
Intel’s investment will bolster future economic development in the region and transform it into the “Silicon Heartland” as an entire supply chain is developed to deliver these facilities, including engineers, site managers and skilled craftsmen. Bechtel becomes a partner of North America Construction unions and suppliers to create new construction jobs and work with local educational organizations to implement training programmes.
“Bechtel is proud to work with Intel and the people at Ohio to recapture US semiconductor manufacturing,” said Catherine Hunt RyanPresident of Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology Division. “A project of this complexity and magnitude – with outsized social and economic impact – is the kind of work that Bechtel is uniquely able to deliver. We are honored to be selected by Intel as a partner and we stand ready to make the most of the most advanced semiconductor facilities in the world.”
“Intel has selected Bechtel to deliver our largest build to date, advancing our mission to create a more sustainable, resilient, and geographically balanced silicon supply.” said Jackie Storm Corporate Vice President, Global Supply Chain Operations at Intel Corporation. “Bechtel has decades of world-class expertise in complex global construction projects, leveraging a deeply experienced team, critical tradesman support and robust analytics platforms. Their relentless focus on security, quality and innovation aligns with Intel’s core values. We look forward to shaping the future of US semiconductor manufacturing together.”
Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Intel Ohio project totaling 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of clean rooms. Its construction requires as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel’s ability to design for rapid advances in technology and deploy world-class design innovations will help Intel achieve its next-generation manufacturing ambitions.
The new facilities will produce Intel’s top-of-the-line chips and boost production to meet increasing demand for advanced semiconductors. The recently passed CHIPS and Science Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act demonstrate the power of public-private partnerships as they provide federal funding to support skills training to help build the workforce of the future.
Bechtel’s work for Intel in county lick will build on the company’s long history of delivering projects with purpose Ohio. Most recently, Bechtel completed a low-carbon energy plant in Carroll Countywhere it supported a new construction curriculum with Southern Local Schools and worked with the community to improve local population resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
