Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State’s No. 10 women’s volleyball team (19-9, 15-5 B1G) is hosting the first and second rounds of the 2022 NCAA tournament after being selected No. 3. This is the second straight season that the Buckeyes will host the first two rounds at the Covelli Center.

  • The Buckeyes were seeded 3rd in that tournament, with the top eight teams in each region seeded that season, marking the program’s 25th NCAA tournament appearance.
  • Kylie Murr was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Mac Podraza was named Big Ten Setter of the Year on Wednesday. Both were the first in program history to receive their respective awards.
  • Emily Londot joined Murr and Podraza in the All-Big Ten First Team, while Gabby Gonzales and Rylee Rader made the All-Big Ten Second Team, and Mia Grunze was the Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree.
  • Tennessee State enters the NCAA tournament with a 19-15 overall record and a 10-8 mark in OVC.
  • The Tigers are on a seven-match winning streak after winning the OVC Tournament championship with a trio of five-set matches and defeating fifth-placed SEMO in the championship match.
  • Johanna Alcantara leads the Tennessee State offense with 501 kills in the season (3.80 per set), while Gina Rivera-Ortiz leads the defense with 731 digs (5.58 per set).
  • This is the first-ever meeting in the series between Ohio State and Tennessee State.
  • High Point goes into the tournament this season with a 23-9 record and a 14-2 conference record.
  • The Panthers won the Big South tournament by defeating Campbell with the first places in the finals after beating third-seeded Winthrop in four sets in the first game.
  • Sydney Palazzolo leads the HPU offense with nearly four kills per set all season while Jenny Wessling averages 4.45 digs per set to lead defense.
  • USC enters the tournament with a 21-10 overall record and a 13-7 mark in the Pac-12.
  • The Trojans clinched a home win over UCLA in four sets last Friday night in the regular season finals.
  • USC has six NCAA championships on its schedule, most recently the 2003 crown.
  • This season, Skylar Fields is leading the Trojans’ offense with 5.14 kills per set, while Gala Trubint is averaging 3.88 digs per set to anchor the defensive line.
