Ohio Women’s Basketball plays on IUPUI Sunday

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Ohio women’s basketball team (0-3, 0-0 MAC) plays IUPUI (2-2, 0-0 HL) away. The matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. at The Jungle and is available to stream on ESPN+. The Bobcats are looking to earn their first non-conference win of the 2022-23 season and add to their all-time series result against the IUPUI Jaguars.

December 2019 was the last matchup between the Bobcats and Jaguars. Ohio won 70-64 at home in the Convocation Center. Ohio was 23 of 57 (40.4%) from the field, 8 of 21 (38.1%) from the three-point line, and 16 of 21 from the free throw line. Ultimately, the Bobcats held IUPUI behind the three-point line on 26 of 65 shots (40%) and 6 of 26 (23.1%). IUPUI got on the line just seven times during the competition, proving the strength of Ohio’s defense. The Jags passed Ohio 43-35, but it was the Bobcats who forced 16 turnovers from IUPUI and gave Ohio 14 points. The Bobcats also accumulated 15 points from quick breaks and 11 steals to secure the 2019 win.

The Ohio Bobcats are reported to have faced IUPUI 5 times in their history; 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2001. Series count is Ohio 3, IUPUI 2. The Bobcats won 2019 (70-64), 2018 (73-66) and 2016 (71-65); fell to the Jaguars in 2017 (52-76) and 2001 (75-84).

The IUPUI has now played 4 games this season namely 2 and 2. They lost their first two matchups to UIC (50-52) and 7th place Louisville (62-84) but now have a 2 game winning streak and are defeating Butler (67). -61) and Southern Illinois (80-76). In their last game against Southern Illinois, the IUPUI Jaguars shot 25 for 52 (48.1%) from the floor and 50% from behind with 13 for 26. The Jags’ defense also held strong, recording 30 rebounds, 10 turnovers and five steals.

Overall, the Jaguar’s offense this season has been led by senior Jazmyn Turner, who has amassed 46 points, followed by Natalie Andersen with 44 points and Ali Berg with 39 points. On defense, IUPUI is led by Rachel Kent with 9 in steals, and Jazmyn Turner has 18 defensive rebounds.

In the Bobcat’s recent contest against the Ohio State Buckeyes, senior guard, Yaya Fields topped her career high on single game points. Felder scored 20 points against Eastern Michigan in February 2022 and hit 20 points twice more in March against Kent State (3/5/22) and South Dakota State (3/17/22). Last Thursday (11/17/22), Felder scored another to add 21 points and add to her new career against battered Ohio State.

The Ohio Bobcats faced the 13th Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big Ten Conference. Ohio stayed strong, trailing by 10 points at the end of the first quarter and leading the competition with 16 rebounds. Ohio was defeated by the Buckeyes, losing 62-90. The Bobcats were led on offense by Yaya Fieldswho had 21 points while Caitlyn Kroll led the team to the boards with a total of 9 rebounds.

The Bobcats have been led by many different people so far in the 2022-23 season. Yaya Fields has accumulated 39 points in the last three games, followed by Caitlyn Kroll at 29, Ella Pope with 25 and Jaya McClure with 24 Kate Dennis leads in 3 pointers with 5 made and 16 tries (.313). on defense Caitlyn Kroll holds 18 defensive rebounds followed by Ella Pope and Abby Garnett with 14 each. Kroll also leads in steals with a total of 6.
