The Ohio airport was briefly closed after the driver went through the gate

A driver broke through a gate at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and drove onto the airfield, causing a temporary suspension of operations, officials said. An airport spokesman told TV channels that the vehicle drove through the gate around 9pm on Wednesday and entered the airfield with damaged runway lights. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, the spokesman said. The airport said operations had been temporarily halted “to maintain the highest level of security”. Cleveland police arrested the suspect, officials said. Several flights to Cleveland were diverted to other airports during the roughly half-hour shutdown, officials said. Drivers also fell through fences at the airport in February 2019 and again in July 2020, Cleveland.com reported.
