Wildcats take third and fifth place at Ohio St. Invitational – UK Athletics

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kentucky Swimming & Diving completed its first invitational meeting of the season on Saturday, finishing third in the women’s and fifth in the men’s at the 2022 Ohio St. Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The 22nd-place British women totaled 1,984 points over three days, finishing only behind No. 6 in Ohio State and No. 10 in Indiana. The men, on the other hand, finished the competition with a score of 1,028.5, climbing up from sixth place on the final day.

“It was a pretty good match overall,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “Midseason meetings are always a bit tricky. We had a few guys qualify for the NCAAs and I thought we had some stellar performances that weekend. We will get better with training over the next few weeks and hopefully be a lot better in February and March.”

The final day of the meet saw several notable performances from the Wildcats, including one from fifth-year diver Kyndal Knight, who set her third personal best of the weekend with a score of 314.45 on the platform. Knight finished second in the event, adding to an already great gathering for the North Carolina native. she

Fellow divers Abby Devereaux and Claire McDaniels also met NCAA zone standards on their first platform attempts of the season, scoring 240.45 and 236.15 to finish sixth and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Levi Sandidge had a fantastic swim in the men’s 1650m freestyle, posting a 14:51:24, the second-best time in program history. Sandidge finished second in the race, one of four podium swims for Kentucky on Saturday alongside Mason Wilby (200 fly), Gillian Davey (200 breaststroke) and Caitlin Brooks (200 backstroke). A total of 15 cats met NCAA B standards that day.

Kentucky will send representatives to national swim and dive teams in the coming weeks before returning to the Lancaster Aquatic Center for a doubles encounter against Georgia on December 19 at 11:00 a.m
